PLANTS: CORRECTED ACTIVITIES FROM TEXTBOOK.

UNIT 5: PLANTS.

PARTS OF A PLANT

1.
- Roots absorb water and minerals that the plant needs to grow. They also fix the plant to the ground.
- Leaves use sunlight to make food for the plant.
- Stem carry water and minerals from the roots to the rest of plant. They also support the plant.
- Flowers produces a fruit with seeds inside. Its function is reproduction.
- Seeds produce new plants.

2.

HOW DO PLANTS FEED THEMSELVES? THE PHOTOSYNTESIS

1. To make food, plants need water, minerals, light and energy from the Sun and carbon dioxide.

2. Photosyntesis happens during the day because there is sunlight, and plants need sunlight to do photosynthesis.

3. Water + minerals + carbon dioxide  + sunlight = food + oxygen

HOW DO PLANTS BREATHE?

4. The first picture shows NIGHT, because the plant takes in oxygen and releases carbon dioxide. The second picture shows DAY because the plant takes in carbon dioxide and releases oxygen.

5. The special substance that help plants do photosynthesis is CLOROPHILE.

HOW DO PLANTS REPRODUCE?

2. Seeds develop in the ovary. The ovary is in the carpel (pistil).

3. Petals are colorful because colors attract insects to the flower and to the pollen.

5. An example of flower and insect interactions is POLLINATION. Bees or butterflies fly from one plant to another, and pollen is transferred from one plant to another.
A different example of interaction is when insects eat leaves from plants or seek shelter on the leaves or flowers.
Another example is when some plants trap and eat insects.

6. Protecting bees is important because they are responsible of pollinating many different plants in the planet, including edible plants that humans use to feed themselves. They also produce honey and help protecting plants diversity.
